The other night when driving back from welcoming home our good friends with their new baby, we encountered one of the most beautiful sunsets I’d ever seen.
Our geography in Salt Lake makes this possible because the sun sets behind the Oquirrh Mountains and for about 15 minutes its light skims the face of the mountain and reflects up onto our western sky.
From the eastern bench of the Wasatch Mountains it can be breathtakingly beautiful sometimes.
When I see things like this I’ll often find a good viewing spot, get everyone out of the car and just take it in. I can’t help myself but say things like “gosh, what a gorgeous sunset” or “can you believe how incredible the mountains look with fresh snow on them”.
Sometimes we move through life so unaware or unimpressed with the absolute stunning nature of our earth. The place that makes life for us even possible.
Don’t we owe it to ourselves to be aware of, savor those moments, and seek out more like it?
Of all the things we are compelled to seek, shouldn’t that always be at the top of the list? To stop and observe the circumstances that make life possible.
To appreciate those circumstances and thank or pray or give gratitude to them.
We collectively wouldn’t exist without them. It makes us special.
“Us” being all the life that exists here in this place.
With love and deep appreciation,
