A Stoic is someone who practices stoicism
A Buddhist is someone who practices Buddhism
A Christian is someone who practices Christianity
A Pragmatist is someone who practices pragmatism
Well I went searching online and in the AI training base of all human knowledge yesterday for the term for someone who practices gratitude, like me, and came up EMPTY.
So I’m going to go ahead and make it happen, and if you all choose to join me, we will call ourselves the Gratists.
This might be the first time in my life I’ve thought of a truly original idea. I’ve never had the experience of searching google and the AIs and having it come up with nothing.
It was truly shocking when the first search came back - I didn’t quite know what to think. And then when perplexity took a little while to spin and came up short I was truly baffled.
It’s like doing a domain name search and the .com is just magically available and it’s $9.99/yr. Unheard of.
I love the idea of branding this term, especially because the alternatives just aren’t very interesting. Gratitude practitioner just doesn’t roll off the tongue.
Gratist just sounds great, regal almost. I can also see how it could take on an even more elevated meaning over time, especially the deeper you get into the practice. A badge of honor, one that transcends humanity and ascends.
So today, in honor of my creativity channeling an original term, I give my thanks to all the Gratists out there like me. As I practice this every day and grow deeper with it, I find my true self and spirit getting stronger. I hope you do too.
With love and deep appreciation,
-Andrew
